Marie Busson

"Modellare l'argilla, intagliare il legno, realizzare monotipi a inchiostro, entrare nella vibrazione del canto... sono tutti modi, per me, di portare luce nell'Invisibile, di guardare dentro le cose. Sentire l'essenza del mio essere femmineo, e più in generale, della mia umanità. Sentire la connessione con la Natura, il Cosmo e il Mistero. Le forme e i materiali usati sono cambiati molto nei quarant'anni di lavoro scultoreo. Dalla classicità delle mie prime opere alla struttura grezza delle ultime selvagge creazioni. I materiali che oggi prediligo sono quelli che raccolgo nella natura: erbe, minerali, piante, terra, detriti".

Nel suo incontro con Daniel Odier, Marie Busson vede qualcuno che segue la sua stessa direzione nella ricerca interiore. "Un compagno di viaggio" come lo definisce, che segue il suo stesso cammino anche quando le parole o i punti di vista possono non coincidere totalmente.

Il rispetto e la venerazione che Daniel Odier ha per le donne, insieme al comune riconoscimento dell'unità di tutto ciò che esiste, costituiscono un punto d'incontro tra la sua attività artistica e la pratica nella tradizione dello Shivaismo Kashmiro. Busson ha lavorato per molti anni esplorando il ruolo della donna, visto come una porta, una guida tra il mondo interiore e quello esterno. Intende il corpo femminile come un portale, di cui l'utero gioca il ruolo di "un vaso alchemico, nel vero senso del termine, sia organico che spirituale". Realizza sculture dove il corpo della donna è cavo, come fosse la porta di una città che lascia i passanti entrare ed uscire. Si riferisce sia alla funzione biologica di partorire che a quella spirituale di trasformare. Dalle sculture di porte o passaggi, Marie Busson inizia a scolpire muri alti con delle piccole aperture che diventano composizioni architettoniche. I vari spazi, connessi al corpo femminile, raccontano di un luogo non visibile ma a cui si può accedere grazie alle porte che connettono l'esterno con l'interno. Gli spazi architettonici diventano, così come i corpi, portali e contenitori di ciò che è sconosciuto, passaggi per una trasformazione spirituale.

"Modeling clay, carving wood, inking a monotype, getting into the vibration of singing...These are all ways, for me, to bring to light the Invisible, to question the inside of things. Feeling the essence of my femininity and, more widely, the essence of my humanity. Feeling our connections with Nature, Cosmos, and Mystery. From the classical aesthetic of my early work, to the raw constitution of my latest wild creations, shapes and materials have evolved over forty years of sculpting. My favorite materials are now the ones I harvest in nature: herbal, mineral and animal elements; earth, plants, driftwood..."

Marie Busson found, in her meeting with Daniel Odier, someone going in the same direction as her quest in life - a "fellow-traveler," as she said, who shared the same quest as her, even when the paths, words or point of views were not exactly the same.

The respect and veneration of women and the recognition of the unity in all that exists were crucial meeting points of the artist's foundation and the practice in the tradition of Kashmir Shaivism. Busson had been working for many years to explore the role of woman as a gate, as a guide between the inner and the outer world. She conceived the feminine body as a portal, where the womb plays the role of "an alchemical vase of transformation in every sense of the word, organically and spiritually." She created sculptures where the woman's body was hollow, like the gate of a town, letting the passers-by move from the inside out and from the outside in. This refers both to the biological function of giving birth and to the spiritual role involved in transformation.From the sculptures of the gates, Marie Busson started building high walls with little doors, taking the form of architectural spaces. These spaces, related to the woman's body, talked about the interior space: it is unknown, but there are open doors connecting inside and outside. The architectural spaces become, like the bodies, portals and containers of the unknown, as well as gates for a spiritual transformation.
